The unmown lawn

Monoprint   21 x 26 cm
No. 5 of a series of 5
£80 unframed

Last summer we didn't mow our lawn and what a delight it was! Not only saving all that hard work, but the joy of watching the succession of wild flowers that emerged and their attendant insects. I was intrigued to see green-veined white butterflies laying eggs on clover leaves rather than on cuckooflower (one of their principal caterpillar food plants, of which there was plenty in the grass). I did quite a few sketches, but wanted something a bit more stylised, so had a go at monoprinting. This is one of a series of five rather similar variations made with various stamps and stencils as well as direct painting.
