This picture was also done on the spot with watercolour sloshed loosely over a quick charcoal sketch. There is always such movement at St Abbs in the summer: gannets passing; kittiwakes circling; auks whizzing to and fro; and always the sea, alive whatever the conditions. The cliffs themselves are solid and fixed, yet have a life of their own and change dramatically with the light and weather. A delight for artist and naturalist alike.
