Goss Moor

Pencil and watercolour   nfs

Goss Moor is a National Nature Reserve, but it is strange place: low lying, wet and once the site of tin-streaming on a huge scale. Nature has reclaimed the land and the ecology is still evolving. At some times of the year, it can seem a bleak and barren place. Appearances can be deceptive, but it most obviously comes alive in spring with the arrival of summer migrants. This is a spring view to the high ground above, with remnants of former china clay works decorating the skyline. Electricity pylons stride across the moor rather spoiling the view, yet adding something essential to the composition! A buzzard circles overhead. The air will be filled with the song of chiffchaffs and willow warblers.
