Each year I usually do a few black and white illustrations for the local annual bird report. Illustrations in colour have appeared elsewhere. A selection is shown here to give an idea of the range of style. All of my illustrations are based on field sketches and, as a rule, they are fairly loose and sketchy themselves. Where some degree of accuracy is expected, I may, if necessary, refer to photos or other suitable source material to check details that are difficult to see in the field, or missing from my sketches. But I don't work from photos (except in extremis !), nor do I seek ideas or inspiration from them.
